Boss, a subsidiary of Roland, has been known since the 1970s for its effects and drum machines. The Dr. Rhythm DR-55 (1980) was one of the first programmable drum machines for musicians. The Boss DR-660 (1992) introduced expanded drum sounds with realistic sample-based tones and MIDI control. The Boss RC-505 (2013) became the standard for live loopers, combining powerful looping options with hands-on control, making it especially popular among beatboxers and solo performers.
