Doepfer was founded in 1979 in Germany and is known for modular synthesizers. The A-100 Modular System (1995) made modular synthesis affordable and became the standard in the Eurorack world. The Dark Energy (2009) was a compact monophonic synthesizer with analog circuitry. The Doepfer MAQ 16/3 (1997), a MIDI-analog sequencer, was used by Kraftwerk and remains popular today.
